Advancing Climate & Energy Justice

Climate justice links human rights and development…safeguarding the rights of the most vulnerable and sharing the burdens and benefits of climate change and its resolution equitably and fairly.

Most vulnerable communities experiences are nuanced, and Indigenous peoples are witnessing such catastrophic climate variabilities while contributing next to nothing to the phenomenon that is causing the destruction.

The climate crisis is a political, social, and ethical issue rather than a purely environmental one caused by an unsustainable extraction and economic model driven by unequally distributed wealth and power in the world exacerbating social and economic inequalities especially in indigenous and marginalized communities.

Energy is a social and material construct negotiated and disputed through political, economic, and cultural processes.

Address climate debt and climate financing

Addressing climate debt and climate financing involves several strategies aimed at supporting developing nations in their climate action efforts while managing their financial burdens. One proposal by the V20 group calls for a global deal on carbon financing, which would require major polluting economies to pay a fair price for the carbon they emit and use at least part of the revenues generated to meet sustainable investment needs in climate-vulnerable nations.

Fight false climate and energy solutions

Fighting false climate and energy solutions involves advocating for real, renewable, and just solutions to address climate change. False solutions, such as carbon capture and storage (CCUS), hydrogen, and carbon offsets, are often promoted by fossil fuel companies and their political allies to give the appearance of meaningful climate action while actually functioning to delay effective policies that might challenge their power, control, and profits.
